Allocations

As a result of extraordinary contributions from parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends this past year, the Hillsborough Schools Foundation was delighted to allocate $3,030,300 to our schools for the 20092010 school year. This represents 15% of the School District budget. This exceptional level of giving reflects a community that values its schools and is willing to support the highest level of education for its children. The Annual Giving Campaign and HSF Events are proud to play such a significant role in the funding of programs and class size reduction. We thank our many donors for making this possible.

We Won't Take This Progress for Granted

In our busy world we often take change for granted, forgetting how far we have come in a short period of time. A student entering our schools in 1988 would have been in a class of at least 26 or as many as 32 other students. There were no math or reading specialists, foreign language was only available to Crocker students, and technology and computer literacy were visions for the future, years away from reality.

Today, children in grades K-3 are in classes of 20 or fewer, and the majority of classes district-wide have less than 23 students. The HSF-supported Foreign Language program, now in its 10th year, is available to every student from kindergarten through 8th grade. Our students' use of the latest technology is remarkable, and our children continue to reap the benefits of the reading and math specialists.

These benefits did not happen overnight. They came steadily because this community believes in an outstanding education for its children and has made a strong financial commitment to our schools. Thank you for making a world of difference in the daily life of our Hillsborough students.

"We are now at a point where we must educate our children in what no one knew yesterday, and prepare our schools for what no one knows yet." — Margaret Mead
