The Scholars' Circle Campaign is an essential part of the Hillsborough Schools Foundation. By contributing at the Scholars' Circle level, 114 families provided close to $1.5 million in support of our schools in 2006-07. This represents almost a five-fold increase from Scholars' Circle's inaugural year in 1998, when 24 families contributed close to $340,000.
Every year the district must contend with rising costs, requiring increased funding just to support existing programs. The Scholars' Circle Campaign is a critical part of HSF's effort to close the gap between government funding and the funding needed to maintain the high level of achievement attained by the Hillsborough schools.
In appreciation of the generous support of Scholars' Circle donors, Scholars' Circle members attend events centered on education and world issues. The group is honored to have had many distinguished guest speakers, including: President Jimmy Carter; restaurateur Alice Waters, founder of Berkeley School District's Edible Garden; Erik Weihenmayer, blind mountaineer who spoke at a Scholars' Circle event just prior to his ascent of Mt. Everest; Dr. William Perry, Professor at Stanford University and a past Secretary of Defense; and renowned Astronaut Dr. Sally Ride.
We look forward to the continued growth of the Scholars' Circle and to the enormous financial benefits it provides for our schools. Thank you to our Scholars' Circle donors. We truly appreciate your generosity and commitment to our children.
